Peter Tobin and Bob Adams spent 7 days fishing the St. Joe River. We stayed at Cabins on the river. We used a guide for a one day float trip and this was rewarding with some very large west slope cutt throat trout ranging to 18 inches caught with large dry flies and some with dry strike indcators and 2nd lower nymphs. We highly recommend this guide for anyone interested. The next days were fished from walk-ins to the river above Calder and above Avery. We fished dry flies and caught many nice cutts from 13 to 18 inches. Access was difficult given the challenges to get to prime spots and also the increased number of folks fly fishing the river and taking these spots. The last day on the St. Joe was sunny and we had a section of river exclusive from 8 am to 4 pm. We took our chair and lunch and enoyed the river. The morning started slow but once the sun hit the river we have fish feeding from the rapids down the section. We both nailed big cutts all on dry flies!!!! This is one of 7 cutts I caught this day. My biggest I measured over 18 inches. Peter caught one bigger! We have already booked our stay for 2024! Hope more guys/gals from our WIFFC club make the event next year!

My son and I fished Ala Spit on April 10, 2023. Sky was overcast and light raining. We arrived at 6:30 am. The tide was at high slack and we started getting fish as the tide started going out. We first lost 2 Sea Run cutthroats both on surface flies. My son Geoff got a nice Dolly Varden on 8 weight floating line. using a Leland Miyaki SeaRun Popper surface fly. 30 minutes later I got another nice Dolly Varden fishing a 8 weight sinking line with shooting head, using as small Clouser Minnow streamer fly. We were watching the fish attack baitfish and then were sight casting to the areas that showed fish feeding. The water surface started getting trashed and we were done fishing at 8:30 am!

Club members Ken Price, John Welty, Pete Tobin and Bob Adams fished North Twin Lake, Colville Reservation in early May. There was still snow on the upper mountains! The Lake Resort was opened now that Covid restrictions were lifted. Lot's of surface action on the lake and hungry rainbows. We all experienced productive fishing with Ken having the most success with his special flies. Pete caught the biggest rainbow of our group. Fished weighed in at 10.5 pounds.

Jim Rohrer, Pete Tobin, and Bob Adams fished Lone Lake on this date. The lake was still fishable given the recent weather for Western Washington/Whidbey Island. Expect this condition to rapidly change with the temperature going above 70-75 degrees. Lake water temperature was recorded at 71 degrees! Water clarity was good. We all had productive success at the lake. The fish were healthy and gave good fights. The Nyerges Nymph again proved effective with intermediate sinking line. Pete's biggest fish was 22 inches caught using a Red Bead headed black bugger.

A couple members of our club will be fishing Cranberry Lake on Tuesday June 14th. Streamers are working. After recent success at our Nyerges One-Nymph Outing at Lone Lake on June 11th, we will be using the Nyerges Nymphs here too! Plan on being at the lake early. CANCELED for TODAY. Winds of 14-15 mph are happening this am and today which make fishing Cranberry more than challenging in a float boat or pontoon.

Fished the incoming tide this morning at Ala Spit with Peter Tobin. I managed to catch one before all the boat traffic started up.

Pete Tobin and I fished a couple of lakes in the Winthrop area. June 14 we fished Big Twin and had some success with big dry flies. We were told that the trout were at the 25 foot level, but we watched active surface feeding in the east end of lake. And this was the ticket to some good dry fly action and close to shore.

Fished Lone Lake yesterday May 2nd. The water quality now shows signs of algae blum startng. Also concerning was the absence of chironomids which typically represent 70% of the food source for trout. Managed to catch a few fish.

Fished Cranberry Lake on June 22 2020. Water condition was cloudy but started at 8 am and fished until 2 pm. Caught 7 trout and provided a perch to an Eagle! Water temperature is getting warmer, but caught all my on nymphs about 6 feet deep near the shoreline and off the weed beds. A couple of the trout must have been holdovers since they were 15 inches and gave good fights!

Finally got to fish Cranberry yesterday afternoon. Lake was planted with over 5,000 small catchables, plus should have a large number of holdovers. Was able to park my vehicle next to the boat launch. No crowding. Arrived at 1:30 PM! Spent 3+ hours on the lake without any hits! No major hatches present either. Will try again in a couple of days once the weather gets warmer and we have some bug hatches.

I plan on fishing Cranberry Lake in Deception Pass State Park tomorrow am. Weather should be okay. There are a large number of holdover fish from the stockings in 2018/2019.

Peter Tobin and I were fortunate to be able to spend a couple days in October on the St. Joe River in Idaho. Weather was really nice considering it was raining back on Whidbey Island. We stopped at Blue Goose in St. Maries on the way to the river and selected dry flies with help of Brian. Cutts were hungry and seem to have grown a few inches since last year. Nothing like fly fishing with small dries. Photos from Peter Tobin.

Just returned from fishing both the St. Joe and CDA Rivers in Northern Idaho. Water levels are really down now. The St. Joe were floatable with pontoon boats. Coeur d'Alene River was low and access was by walk-in. Both C&R rivers were fishing excellent at this time. Recommend fishing until it gets too hot.

Fish and Game stocked Pass Lake on May 1, 2019 with 600 1/2 lb Rainbows. This is the first time in the last 3 years that they decided to try planting larger trout since they have only been planting fry. They plan on evaluating outcome of this stocking vs. strictly planting fry.

Just returned from our 2019 Club excursion to North Twin Lake. Arrived with Jerry Mumfrey driving on Sunday May 5th and fished for 3 days. Weather was really nice for this time in May. Fishing was awesome. Most of these big rainbows were in the 16" to 19 7/8" category. The "Booby Fly" was the trick this year! This fly is best moving slowly and keeping depth within 8 -10 ft. Otherwise the trout want to slam it and swallow. Best fishing time slot started at 5:30- 6 to 10 AM and again from 6 PM to dark. I had my Outcast Stealth Pro and Jerry had his Outcast Pontoon boat. Both have their advantages. When the wind picks up, which it did on the lake, the wind and waves are extremely challenging with the Stealth Pro. Twin Lake is pretty big and it takes a lot of effort to paddle and kick the Stealth Pro back from the other side of the lake after being blown there. I really like Jerry's Pontoon boat but do not have space at home to store it inflated and a truck to haul it. It handles better with oars then the Stealth Pro. I was not planning on keeping any of these, however, Jerry convinced me to take a couple to the Fish Cleaning station. What a surprise! These rainbows when filleted were dark red bodies, looked like Steelhead. So we decided to keep our 2 day limits for smoking and grilling. We had plenty of practice filleting fish!

Fished Pass Lake, first time in 2019. Got there about 3 pm. Almost everyone were leaving for the day. Good bug hatches until 6 pm when I left too. Caught one really nice rainbow, about 20 inches. Jumped 3 times and took me to my backing. Continues to be fewer fish being caught based on feedback from the guys I talked to. Still a nice day on the lake!

Peter Tobin and I were fishing the St. Joe River, ID in mid-October. Water flow was low. Best dry-fly cutthroat fishing we have had since we started fishing this river now for over 5 years. Average sizes were 15 to 17 inch. We also had afternoon of multiple fish in the 20+ inch class. Here is a photo of Peter with one of the cutts. Nothing like fishing size 18 dry flies! Can't wait until next year.
