Question about fishing the St. Joe.

    in Let's Go Fishing

My old fishing partner and his son want to fish the St. Joe in Idaho. Neither of us have fished it before. Can anyone tell us:

What's the best time of year to fish and do you prefer the lower, or upper river (it's a really long river, and we've heard that the mid section isn't fishable/accessable)?

Thanks, and I hope everyone is having a good year fishing.

Thanks, Bob. I'll pass this on to my friend.

Bob-- I have fished the St. Joe for years as my favorite river. I consider the best time to fish it is in the fall. It is a very long river, I usually fish it in the mid section where it is accessible and the fish seem to concentrate in the fall. There is a sports shop in St. Maries that will have the flies that are working and provide updated information on the river. Upper stretch of river above Avery is more challenging. Tight lines!
