My son and I met Mark McGinnis, Clarence Hein, Tom Langley, and Clayton Wright (just visiting, not fishing) at Lone Lake today and had a grand time. The weather was clear and the wind was moderate with gusts. Those fishing were trolling white or bright yellow flies on size 6 or 8 hooks. The best fishers (Clarence and Tom) did quite well (10-20 fish); those of us not as skilled caught two or three each.
Tom had been on the water since 8:15 and was catching fish from the very start. The rest of us started at around 9:30 and fished until about 12:30. Dave offered encouragement to the late starters by sitting 15-feet off the boat ramp and catching two fish by casting and stripping while the rest of us were still getting ready.
Tom, who fishes the lake practically every day, clearly has things dialed in. Clarence, having fished the lake longer but less frequently than Tom, also has a good handle on things. The rest of us are using our native intelligence as best we can. Still, all of us were using comparable gear--intermediate or fast-sink lines and similar flies. Go figure.
