It was a wonderfully pleasant day on the lake, with fine weather and fewer anglers than I expected. This year's Pass Lake fish census, sponsored by the Fidalgo Fly Fishers club, got off to its 2018 start today with a few flashes but not what you'd call fireworks. Fishing was fairly slow, particularly in the morning. While I heard of and saw fish being caught, I also heard a lot of talk across the water on the order of, "I haven't seen anyone with a fish on." I'd say the majority of the people I saw were fishing chironomids (details unknown), while I and others were using streamers. I had zero luck casting my muddler minnow to the bank and stripping it out. Slow deep trolling is how I caught my three fish (in four hours). One fish was on my muddler, right in the center of the lake while I trolled from west to east. My other two fish were on an olive leach (unweighted) moving north to south right down the middle of the southern end of the lake.
