Floating the Yakima - March 2021

Had a great day on the Yakima yesterday. My old friend Jim and I floated from Red's to Roza with Craig, a guide from Red's Fly Shop. Craig was an awesome guide. We hit the water about 10:30am and used a two fly nymph setup. Both rigs had a small beaded worm fly below a larger weighted nymph under a indicator (ok it looked like a bobber). My weighted nymph was a size 10 March Brown thing. We fished some slow deep holes and caught a number of large 14"-18" fish. Lot's of mending to get good deep drifts. Most fish took the worm but my biggest fish in the morning took the March Brown. Here is a pic of the first fish of the day:

The big fish measured 20 1/2 inches on the guides official scale.

After a great streamside lunch, we switched to Skwala dry patterns. I fished a #10 Royal Chubby Chernobyl.

We again focused on slower deeper water and caught a bunch of nice fish. There were a number of adult Skwalas on the water and rising fish. The last hour between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm was the best dry fly fishing with a couple of doubles during that time.

I lost count of the # of fish I caught. Beautiful weather and beautiful fish.
