Some Luck at Pass Lake

My son, David, and I fished Pass Lake yesterday afternoon for about three hours. Trolling a green leech, I caught two 17-inchers. Dave had no luck trolling a black leech. We were fishing along the eastern shore and went as far north as the large cove there. Dave was using a full sink type 6 line, and I was using a type 6 sink tip.

While we were doing our thing, we watched another fisher casting and retrieving around the large weed bed at the point of land mid way down the west shoreline. He seemed to have a fish on each time we looked. Eventually we flipped over that way and found fish surfacing regularly. This was about 3:30 PM, and as near as we could tell, the fish were chasing small bait fish. They were pretty tight to the weeds, but we did what we could with our heavy lines. I managed to land one after casting to a boiling fish, but our gear was a handicap. We talked to the hotshot angler when we returned to the boat launch and learned that he was stripping a small (1.5-inch long and #8 or #10 hook) white streamer, tied fairly sparse, with a brown back.

If I were going to be on the island longer, I'd be going back. In my stead, why don't you give it a try? The lake is clearing up with current visibility of about 4 feet. It's far better than the green slimey mess of a few weeks ago.
